Ekkehard Tischendorf | Unsichtbares Licht

Galerie Terminus wants to start the new year with a solo exhibition with one of its promising young talents, Ekkehard Tischendorf (* 1976 in Dresden). Already in the year 2008, the artist showed great promise with his first solo-exhibition “Die Vermessung der Tube“ within the gallery’s focus theme “Terminus Young Talents”. Now, two years later, he returns to Galerie Terminus, with a complete collection of his latest works.

The title of the exhibition “Black Light” may at first sight be misleading, considering that the German translation of it means literally invisible light. This raises the question whether light can even be “not-visible”. In his latest works the artist Ekkehard Tischendor seems to face the issues of light phenomenon’s, as seen in the piece “Abstrahierte Freiheit” from the latest series “Ballonschatten”. In the centre stands a blue shimmering human figure in the middle of a winter scenery. In front of the person erects a balloon shaped body that captivates the human to such an extent that he sinks to the ground. Further to the right shines a soap bubble like hemisphere in front of a monumental mountain that is connected to the glowing balloon by a hose. By these means the artist creates an impression of an oversized light bulb. A familiar blaze of colour casts over the snow covered mountaintops scenery, but the viewer is unable to distinguish whether the light derives from the midnight sun, from a sunrise or a sunset. It seem like the time stood still in the picture, but nevertheless the pictorial space vibrates with energy, similar a colourful electric pulse, maybe an en-lightment.

Ekkehard Tischendorf lives and works in Dresden.
